On Sunday, September 14th, The CSL Art Committee hosted an artist reception for Terri Shay and her collection, Dreaming of the Magpie, currently on display in Scott Hall throughout the month of September.

Terri shared her time and heart with the community, offering thoughtful insight into her artwork, creative process, and sources of inspiration. Guests enjoyed not only viewing her vibrant pieces but also gaining a deeper appreciation for the vision and imagination behind them.
“The work I create is meant to amuse, inspire, and foster a curiosity of the mystery that is our natural world. Through familiar forms and organic movements an alternative landscape emerges. I am fascinated by thinking of creating, like solving a visual and melodious puzzle.”
The magpie is a bird that carries different symbolic meanings depending on culture and tradition. Magpies are often seen as symbols of curiosity, intelligence, adaptability, and the harmony of opposites, with an air of mystery or trickster playfulness. They have an attraction to shiny objects has led them to be seen as keepers of hidden treasures, mystery, and the unseen.

If you missed the reception, there’s still time to experience Terri's work. Her collection will remain on view at CSL through the end of September. You can stop by Tuesday through Friday between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM. All pieces are available for purchase in the Rising Thought Gifts & Bookstore.
