Artist of the Month
(August)

The chaos that Alison Bozarth often explores in her themes bleeds into the artistic style she’s become most known for—a unique technique she stumbled upon in the summer of 2018. While experimenting with different styles alongside her grandmother one afternoon, Alison was introduced to painting watercolors on yupo paper.

Always eager to push her work and evolve her concepts in new and meaningful directions, Alison found comfort and inspiration in the vibrant, unpredictable pools of pigment that formed on the slick surface. These colorful clashes began to take shape in her imagination as wild, dreamlike environments—settings for towering elephants or stalking cheetahs, which she would sketch in over the abstract backgrounds.

Each of the 100 pieces in what would come to be known as her Tiny People with Giants series was completed with the addition of a small, shadowy silhouette of a human figure. These tiny characters served to give a sense of scale to the enormous beasts and invited viewers into a visual game—something akin to Where’s Waldo or I Spy—blending curiosity, wonder, and whimsy into each piece.
Alison will be displaying her artwork in Scott Hall August 1 - August 31st.

“I had never been the biggest fan of color before then,” she recalls. “My safe spot was good ol’ basic pencil on paper. If I was feeling adventurous, I’d go for the starkness of black ink on white paper, like I did with my Time to Talk series. But stepping into working with yupo paper was a game changer. It helped me feel comfortable with painting by minimizing the need for color to be right, and instead focusing on letting it simply be what it was.” - Alison Bozarth
Opening Reception
On Sunday, August 10, the CSL Art Committee hosted a warm and inspiring artist reception for Aliston Bozarth and her collection, "Tiny People’s Exotic Pet Shop." Alison Bozarth shared an intimate look into her creative process, working with vibrant watercolors on smooth, non-porous yupo paper. A lifelong animal lover, Alison weaves her passion for wildlife into each piece, portraying majestic creatures in bold, fluid color. Adding a playful twist, she subtly tucks tiny, shadowy silhouettes of human figures into the scenes. These miniature characters create a striking sense of scale against the enormous beasts while inviting viewers into a visual game—something reminiscent of Where’s Waldo or I Spy. The result is a body of work that balances curiosity, wonder, and whimsy, leaving audiences both enchanted and engaged.

Her artwork will be on display throughout the month of August. You can view the exhibit Tuesday- Friday between 10 AM and 3 PM. All artwork is available for purchase in the Rising Thought Gifts & Bookstore.
