Artist of the Month

(April)

Sue Alexander.png

Sue is a lifelong educator and artist whose creative journey bridges music, nature, and visual expression. She holds a degree in Piano Pedagogy and taught music for more than 35 years. While teaching remained a central part of her life, she quietly carried a long‑standing desire to paint and draw. That wish took shape in 2013, when she attended a paint‑and‑dine class that unexpectedly ignited a powerful creative spark.

Since then, painting has become a defining passion. Sue draws much of her inspiration from the ocean, particularly the East Coast, where she lived for 17 years and first began exploring coastal themes in her work. Her extensive background as a florist for over two decades also plays an important role in her artistic voice, with floral elements frequently appearing throughout her paintings.

In recent years, Sue expanded her practice to include pet portraits, encouraged by friends and met with enthusiastic response. This has become a meaningful and rewarding part of her work. She continues to explore new techniques through fluid art, opening fresh creative pathways and allowing her to create functional pieces such as jewelry, coasters, and trivets alongside her paintings.

Sue’s work reflects a lifelong commitment to creativity, growth, and the joy of artistic discovery.

Sue will be displaying her artwork in Scott Hall April 1 - April30.

Her artwork will also be for sale!  Visit the rising thought bookstore to purchase.
