General Class Information
Introduction
The purpose of the Center is to "foster growth and transformation". It is a learning place, within the Center for Spiritual Living, designed to produce an experience of personal and spiritual growth to enhance life on many levels.
Classes within the Center are open to all adults. Attendance at Sunday services or membership at the Center are not requirements to attend any of the classes.
All information regarding classes, schedules, instructors and costs are available within this website. Information is published at the Center periodically, however, this website provides a comprehensive, indepth explanation. Registration is definitely available 4 weeks prior to the start of a class, with the intention to class schedules and information as early as possible.
Once classes are available on the website, individuals may register online. Within 4 weeks prior to the beginning of a class, as publication occurs at the Center, individuals may register in person at the Center through the Class and Event Center located in Scott Hall or through the Insights Bookstore. Registration for a class will close the Sunday prior to the start of the class to provide adequate time for administrative duties to be performed. Pre-registration, either online or at the Center, may occur up to this point and only afterwards as a form of payment for the class, NOT FOR ENROLLMENT. The minimum number of students required for a class to proceed is six, which will be determined on the first night of class if less than six show up or have identified their intentions prior to the first night of class. If a class requires a pre-registration deposit, it will be announced when a class is open for registration. Late registration may be approved by contacting the Education Department at the Center.
NOTE: Class workbook materials will be distributed the first night of class and textbooks required for each class may be purchased in advance or on the first night of class. (See information by class for textbook requirements.)
Class Cancellation & Personal Class Cancellations
It is possible that a class may be cancelled even after registration begins. In the event that this occurs, the pre-registered students will be notified immediately. If any pre-registration fee has been paid, it will be refunded immediately through the Center's Accounting office. If a class is cancelled and books have been purchased, they may be returned to the Insight Bookstore for a refund, as long as the book is in new condition.
If an individual needs to cancel their pre-registration for a class and has NOT pre-paid any money, they may remove their name from the Class Sign Up sheet. IF money HAS been paid, a refund will be issued with a $10.00 cancellation fee. This will also be the policy if cancellation happens before the third week of class, plus a pro-rated fee for the classes attended.
It is the intention of SDI to present all classes when they are scheduled. However, in the event of an unforeseeable circumstance, a change in class day, time or instructor may occur. If this should occur, the Education Department will notify all pre-registered students immediately and change any published literature with the modified information.
Class Textbooks
A list of required class textbooks is indicated with each class description. In the event that textbook requirements change, the information will be provided when registration/sign up sheets are available. Books may be purchased before the first day/night of class or on the first day/night of class, but they do not have to be purchased at the Insight Bookstore.
Concurrent classes and tracks
Students may NOT take concurrent classes in the Science of Mind and Spirit Track. A course from the Science of Mind and Spirit Track may be taken concurrently with a class from a different track. Additionally, if a student has not attended the required Saturday Workshop in the Science of Mind Foundations class, they must get permission from the Education Director to attend the next Science of Mind class with the agreement to commit to the next Foundation's Saturday Workshop. Otherwise, successful completion of the second class will NOT occur until this happens and no further Science of Mind classes may be taken.
Attendance / Class Requirements
All courses have attendance requirements. Two absences are permitted per class. If a further absence is anticipated in advance, for business or another known commitment, the instructor must give permission and will require make-up work. Three absences, without notification in advance, will result in the student not being able to successfully complete the course. Notification must be given to the instructor or class assistant as soon as a potential absence is known. Refunds will not be authorized after the third class unless approved by the Education Director.
NOTE: For Inward Journey and Practitioner Training, one absence per 10 weeks is permitted.
All homework and financial requirements must be taken care of before the last class, unless other arrangements are made with the instructor. Any modifications to scheduled classes after the class begins will be discussed within the class and agreed upon by both students and the instructor. In the event that a student is unable to follow the request of the instructor or the majority of the class, the instructor will be responsible to assure all students have adequete support with the class work missed.
